It is very hard to be a bird in our backyard. Or at least a little bird. We have a squirrel, a cute little fellow, who apparently, while we were recently in England, decided that there was a very warm spot under the cover to the gas grill for him to take up residence. He had a handful of sunflower seeds, twigs, fluff, and straw all ready for a nest when Big Guy wondered why we kept nuzzling under the grill to see what was there. Here is a photo of him after Patrick and I chased him off the deck and into a nearby birch tree.
This morning, another ominous sign... a big hawk. He's not very much in focus, so Big Lady will try again, but here he is perched on the fence with his back toward the camera. We did not see evidence of what he was after, but it usually isn't bird seed that he's looking for. I personally like to bark at anything in my air space even if it's a hawk up hundreds of feet above circling over the house. This one was very tempting and fortunate for him he flew off before Patrick and I went bounding out the back door looking for him.
